Water conservancy district considers relocating office again

At its July 20 meeting, the San Juan Water Conservancy District (SJWCD) Board of Directors discussed relocating the district’s offices to a space at First Southwest Bank at 249 Navajo Trail Drive from its current location at 4670 West U.S. 160.

The district relocated to its current location in January following the ending of its lease at its previous Eaton Drive location.

SJWCD board member Rob Hagberg explained that he and SJWCD board member Joe Tedder met with an agent of First Southwest Bank and were able to come to an agreement on lease terms, including a $870 security deposit to hold an office space at the bank.

He added that the district would have occupancy as of Dec. 1 and move-in rights as of Nov. 30.

Hagberg stated that the district would have a corner office location in the bank.

If the district backs out of its lease, it will lose the security deposit, which will otherwise roll over and become a damage deposit, he stated.

Hagberg added that the rent would be $435 per month, which is significantly less than the approximately $800 per month the district pays at its current location.

He noted that the district would have to reserve the bank’s meeting room in advance for board meetings at the new location.

Hagberg concluded by stating that the district has written and delivered a check to the bank to reserve the space.

SJWCD board member Candace Jones noted that the district would have to finalize a lease agreement for the space, and Hagberg replied that he and Tedder had examined a provisional agreement for a lease.
