The Vets4Vets organization is dedicated to providing support and, often, financial aid to Colorado veterans. We have proudly supported our veterans for 15 years with financial aid or rides to medical appointments. Most of our members are veterans, and many are children or spouses of men and who served our country in its time of need.
May is a particularly important time for all of our veterans.
On May 19, volunteers will gather at Hilltop Cemetery to place American flags on the graves of all veterans. This is a very moving time for many of us.
Our annual golf tournament at Rio Grande Golf Club near South Fork will take place on May 23. This fundraising event allows us to add to our coffers the money needed to continue supporting our veterans. Many local merchants contribute gifts to give out to the golfers for lowest score or other achievements. Many of our volunteers will be there to help with all that is needed to make this a fun, successful event.
May 25 is the most important day for our veterans. This day is set aside to honor the many who gave the most in protecting our freedom. There will be a ceremony at Hilltop Cemetery where we will assemble around the flag pole at 9:45 a.m. This event will kick off with a flyover by the San Juan Squadron at 10 a.m., followed by a rifle volley and bugle call to “Taps.”
Our work is never over. On May 26 at 11:30 a.m., volunteers will gather at Hilltop Cemetery to collect the flags from the graves.
If any of you are driving along Vista Boulevard at 9 a.m. on May 9, you will see Vets4Vets volunteers out for the Adopt-a-Highway cleanup. We are proud to keep Pagosa Springs clean and beautiful.
