Great Colorado Time Capsule to make stop in Pagosa Springs

Posted

The Great Colorado Time Capsule will be making a stop at the Pagosa Springs Visitor Center on Monday, Aug. 10, with the time capsule available for viewing and for residents to contribute items for one hour only.

The time capsule, according to the project, was created in recognition of Colorado’s 150th anniversary and America’s 250th anniversary.

The project states it is collecting letters, photographs, artwork, stories and artifacts that will give people in 2076 a snapshot of what life in Colorado was like in 2026, with residents, organizations, businesses, schools and community groups encouraged to participate.

Submissions should help tell the story of Colorado and its communities in 2026.

From 9 to 10 a.m. on Aug. 10, residents will be able to see the capsule, meet representatives of the project and submit something that represents their present-day life.

The Visitor Center is located at 105 Hot Springs Blvd.

After traveiling through communities across the state Aug. 7-14, the time capsule will be permanently installed at the Ranch Events Complex in Loveland and opened in 2076, giving future Coloradans a glimpse of life during Colorado’s sesquicentennial year and America’s 250th anniversary.

When opened in 50 years, organizers state, all items will be displayed collectively before being returned to each of the Colorado counties they originated from.
