Community United Methodist Church to begin new series: ‘Direction: Following the Way’

The Community United Methodist Church will begin a new six-week sermon series this Sunday, Aug. 2, titled “Direction: Following the Way” — exploring what it means to walk faithfully when the road ahead is unclear.

The series, led by Pastor Ken Daniell, draws on the imagery of trails, wilderness and mountain journeys, natural language for a community surrounded by the San Juan Mountains, to ask the question at the heart of many people’s lives: How do I take the next faithful step when I can’t see the whole path?

“God rarely gives us the whole map,” said Daniell. “But there is usually enough light for the next step. That’s what this series is about, learning to trust the light you have rather than waiting for certainty you may never get.”

The series will open Aug. 2 with a Communion Sunday exploring Psalm 119:105: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path,” and continues through six weeks of sermons drawn from some of the most honest and searching passages in scripture: The Road to Emmaus. Elijah hiding in the wilderness. Joshua crossing the Jordan. Jesus saying I am the Way.

Along the way, the series will address real questions people carry, what to do when the trail disappears, how to choose a direction when every option feels uncertain, what courage actually looks like when you are not sure where you are going, and what it means to be fully present to the life and community right in front of you rather than always looking toward what comes next.

The series will run through Sept. 6, concluding on Labor Day weekend.

The Community United Methodist Church is a progressive, inclusive, and affirming congregation committed to serving the Pagosa Springs community. All are welcome regardless of background, belief or history with church.

Services are held Sundays at 8:15 and 11 a.m. at 434 Lewis St. For more information, visit cumcps.org or call (970) 264-5508.
