Unitarian Universalists to honor season with lunch

Posted

There is nothing better than a bowl of warm soup, especially as the weather cools, and this Sunday, along with the tale of “Stone Soup,” the Pagosa Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship will honor the shift of the season with a soup and bread lunch after the service.

All are welcome to join us in adding ingredients to our vegetarian broth as we honor the season’s harvest.

This Sunday, Sept. 20, beginning at 10:30 a.m., we will also hear about Mabon, the traditional pagan holiday of giving thanks for the earth’s bounty. Leading this seasonal service is Michael Demchak.

Demchak was active in pagan groups and the Living Earth Church in Denver, where he co-created many circles as a pagan priest.

Raised with a UU background, he is chairperson of the Sunday Service Team, president of the fellowship, and a lay minister for the Pagosa UU Fellowship.

Joining Demchak is De Anna Hoyle, currently serving as community engagement coordinator for the Pagosa UU Fellowship. Hoyle’s background is in religious education, and is she also a spiritual companion and consultant serving congregations in transition.

Music will be an added element to the service, offered by Dave Pettus.

The fellowship invites attendees to bring their own bowl and utensils to share in the warmth of this liberal community of faith. We celebrate diversity and inclusivity, and honor individuals along their spiritual paths.

The Pagosa UU Fellowship is located at Unit B-15 of the Greenbriar Plaza, 301 N. Pagosa Blvd., on the north side facing the Pagosa Peak.

Our Sunday programs begin at 10:30 a.m. We also offer Zoom services the first and third Sundays of the month.

Find our current newsletter at PagosaUU.org for the link to join and to find our current programs. Our fellowship community is committed to lifelong learning and growing as we place love at the center of the set of shared values. Come to explore your own spiritual leanings in a community of fellow seekers on this life journey.

The Tara Pagosa Meditation Group continues most Sunday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. These are simple practices based on cultivating the Four Immeasurables — love, compassion, joy and equanimity. A dharma talk and discussion follows the practice. Newcomers are always welcome, and those more experienced will deepen their practice. Attending group practice encourages, supports and reinforces your daily home practice. There is a Zoom option for those unable to make it out, and we encourage you to email the Pagosa UU Fellowship at info@pagosauu.org to get on the list for the link to join.
