To continue our motto of “Make Friends, Grow in Spirit and Do Good,” the Pagosa Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship holds a monthly Going Deeper sharing circle, which gathers the second Sunday of each month.
The fellowship heard the sermon “Hope is an Unfinished Story” last week, where the Rev. Sean Neil-Barron shared stories of building beloved community through a theology of community organizing. He challenges the notion that it begins with strategy and tactics and mass mobilization, but rather relationship, which is what sits at the heart of Unitarian Universalism.
We invite all those with curious minds and hearts to join us Sunday, Aug. 10, at 10:30 a.m. in this small-group setting where we invite sharing and practicing deep listening. We will explore the themes of the “Unfinished Story” and leave space for quiet reflection and for sharing whatever else is on our hearts.
Come make friends and practice the art of listening with others.
The following Sunday, Aug. 17, again at 10:30 a.m., we will hear a sermon entitled “Love at the Center.” We will welcome Mary Ocken, a lay leader at the UU Fellowship of Durango.
Ocken is a native Coloradoan, growing up on a ranch, and describes herself as having a lifelong love affair with the world.
She states, “Love is at the center of our Unitarian Universalist values. Love is also central to many of the spiritual traditions. We will explore love as a key spiritual value and how it is fundamental to who we are as human beings.”
As a reminder, there will be no Sunday morning programming on Aug. 24 and Aug. 31.
We invite you to the weekly meditation practice every Sunday at 7 p.m. New-to-meditation and experienced practitioners are welcome. The schedule for meditation is as follows:
• First and third Sundays — 7 to 7:45 p.m. (a shortened meditation only practice).
• Second and fourth Sundays — 7 to 8:30 p.m. (meditation practice and dharma talk).
This practice is led by a certified meditation instructor who has been authorized as a dharma teacher.
For more information about this and current programs, visit PagosaUU.org. Once there, you can email to be added to our mailing list or the meditation email list to receive notices about the schedule.
We are located at Unit B-15 of the Greenbriar Plaza, 301 N. Pagosa Blvd., on the north side facing the Pagosa Peak.
