Unitarian Universalists to hear about Pagosa Outreach Connection

Posted

Pagosa Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship moves into the new year with renewed energy to “Make Friends, Grow in Spirit, Do Good” — our current motto for building beloved community.

To this end, we added Action Sunday on each fourth Sunday. This week we will gather to hear from Jean Smith, our representative to the Pagosa Outreach Connection (POC).

The UU Fellowship has been involved with POC for many years, and we are grateful to Smith for her dedication to this important local program.

The following is information posted on the Community United Methodist Church’s Facebook page: “POC is a collaborative multi-sector group of concerned citizens including non-profit, business, faith based and governmental agencies who gather weekly to screen, advocate and provide financial assistance to residents in need…. The goal of POC is to assist an individual and/or family in moving forward toward greater self-sufficiency and to alleviate an immediate financial hardship or financial crisis.”

Come learn a bit about POC’s work in the community.

Along with this local focus on doing good, we will explore ways to connect and live out our values in the wider world.

The nonprofit organization 5Calls.org can help people connect to their members of Congress easily by providing contact phone numbers, issues and scripts of what to say. We gather to share tools for advocacy and get creative with a craft project.

The program will begin at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday, Feb. 23.

Find us in Unit B-15 of the Greenbriar Plaza 301 N. Pagosa Blvd., on the north side facing the Pagosa Peak. Join us. For more information about the fellowship, please see the website www.pagosauu.org and find our current newsletter.

In addition to our regular programming, we offer in-person meditation practice held each Sunday starting at 9 a.m.

Our next dharma talk and practice is this Feb. 23. Dan Dempster, an authorized dharma teacher and certified meditation instructor, states, “Buddhist meditation practice will delve into the world of extraordinary beauty that shimmers just beneath the surface of our apparently mundane and fearful existence. With guidance and practice, learning to recognize the impermanence and interdependence of our sacred web of life is both liberating and inherently joyful.”

You are encouraged to arrive a bit early to get settled. All are welcome, join us from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at the Pagosa UU Fellowship.
