Unitarian Universalists detail May schedule

Posted

The Pagosa Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship invites life-long learners and those with curious minds and open hearts to join us any Sunday as we create a space for deepening community ties and growing our spirits.

Join us in-person at our services at 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship is held on the first and third Sundays of the month, with the second and fourth Sundays being the Sharing Circle and Action Sunday, respectively.

We are located in Unit B-15 of the Greenbriar Plaza, 301 N. Pagosa Blvd., on the north side facing the Pagosa Peak. We offer Zoom streaming of our service, and a link to join online can be found at PagosaUU.org, where you will find our current newsletter with information on all our programs.

The Pagosa UU Fellowship is a welcoming congregation, we believe that all of who you are is sacred, and all of who you are is welcome. Find out more at https://www.uua.org/lgbtq.

Following is this month’s schedule. Meditation practice is also listed, which occurs each week beginning at 9 a.m.

May 4

Meditation practice will be at 9 a.m., and the Sunday service will be at 10:30 a.m.

We will welcome Herb Grover to share his talk on “Threats to Biodiversity —Making It Personal,” after an unforeseen accident kept him from speaking in March.

Conservation biologists have been sounding the alarm for many years that, as a result of the global impact of the human endeavor, the biosphere is undergoing a sixth mass extinction event. The number of disappearing species, coupled with the decline in numbers of virtually all forms of wildlife, paint a picture that for some is overwhelming.

In this week’s talk, Grover, a retired university professor of ecology and environmental science, will bring the topic of threats to biodiversity home by reviewing the results of a bird monitoring project he helps coordinate through our local Weminuche Audubon Society, and through his personal efforts to observe, photograph and share with others the beauty of our surroundings.

His talk will also draw attention to the Unitarian Universalist seventh principle concerning the interconnectedness and interdependence of all living things through a discussion of whether there is a universal appreciation of beauty in nature and, if so, how this might promote more inclusive environmental stewardship.

May 11

Meditation practice and dharma talk will be from 9 to 10:15 a.m.

The Going Deeper Sharing Circle will be at 10:30 a.m.

We come together in this small-group setting to share with one another and practice deep listening. We explore themes of recent topics and leave space for reflection and for whatever else is on our hearts. Come make friends and practice the art of listening with others. Light refreshments will be offered.

May 18

Meditation practice will be at 9 a.m., and the Sunday service will be at 10:30 a.m.

The service will be “Mystics on the Front Lines: Integrating Spiritual Perspectives and Resources into Social Activism” with presenters Janess and David Sheets.

The Sheets are ordained ministers of the Sufi Universal Worship, spiritual retreat guides and senior teachers in the Inayatiyya, a Sufi path of spiritual liberty.

May 25

Meditation practice and dharma talk will be from 9 to 10:15 a.m.

Action Sunday will be at 10:30 a.m.

Join us for Action Sunday as we put our values and doing good into practice.
