Town lifts fire restrictions

Posted

Effective immediately on Tuesday, Sept. 15, Stage 1 fire restrictions have been lifted for the Town of Pagosa Springs.

The decision to lift Stage 1 Fire Restrictions was made by Town Manager David Harris pursuant to the Town’s emergency authority and following consultation with the Pagosa Fire Protection District, the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office, and the Pagosa Springs Police Department. As a result, the open burning restrictions previously in place are no longer in effect within Town limits.

While restrictions have been lifted, wildfire conditions can change quickly in Southwest Colorado. Residents and visitors are encouraged to continue to practice caution and prioritize fire safety in all outdoor activities.

Officials remind the public to:

  • Check weather conditions before burning. Never burn during windy conditions or when a Red Flag Warning is in effect.
  • Never leave fires unattended.Campfires and burn piles should be completely extinguished and cold to the touch before leaving the area.
  • Obtain required burn permits. Burn permits are available through the Pagosa Fire Protection District.

Even with restrictions lifted, fire safety remains a shared responsibility. The Town encourages everyone to stay aware of current conditions and use extra caution to help protect the community and surrounding public lands.
