Thingamajig Theatre Company’s summer repertory season is entering its final weeks, with five performances scheduled between tonight and Tuesday at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts.
The season continues through Aug. 29.
“Fiddler on the Roof” returns tonight, Thursday, Aug. 6, and again Friday, Aug. 7.
The musical follows Tevye, a Jewish milkman living in the small village of Anatevka, as he tries to preserve the traditions that have guided his family for generations. That becomes increasingly difficult as his daughters begin choosing their own husbands and the larger world presses in on the village.
Featuring “Tradition,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” “To Life” and “Sunrise, Sunset,” “Fiddler on the Roof” balances broad comedy and memorable music with a moving story about family, faith and change.
Stephen Sondheim’s “Company” follows Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 8 and 9.
Bobby is single, turning 35 and surrounded by married friends who all have something to say about his life. Through a series of dinners, conversations and birthday celebrations, Bobby gets a close look at the rewards and compromises of marriage.
The score includes “Being Alive,” “The Ladies Who Lunch” and “Getting Married Today,” one of musical theater’s fastest and funniest songs.
Next week on Tuesday, Aug. 11, Thingamajig will present a special performance of “Fiddler on the Roof” benefiting Aspen House.
One hundred percent of ticket sales will go toward construction of Aspen House’s new residential home for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The evening will also bring members of the Aspen House community into the production. Participants will appear alongside Thingamajig’s professional company onstage and assist members of the team backstage.
With the season ending Aug. 29, opportunities to see this year’s three productions are becoming limited. Audiences hoping to catch a show, or return to see a favorite again, are encouraged to reserve their seats soon through the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts.
