One or more suspects remain at large following a vehicular pursuit in western Archuleta County Thursday evening.
According to Capt. Adrian Driscoll of the Colorado State Patrol, troopers initiated a pursuit on a vehicle with a trailer at approximately 5:26 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, in the area of Forest Service Road 620 (First Notch Road).
The pursuit was terminated 15 to 20 minutes later, Driscoll said, at the intersection of Forest Service roads 620 and 133.
After the pursuit was terminated, Driscoll said gunshots were heard, but it is currently unclear if the shots were fired at law enforcement, were caused by the trailer the vehicle was hauling being lit on fire, or were for another reason.
A tactical team and air support from San Juan County, N.M. were called in, and authorities were on the scene until about 1 a.m., Driscoll explained.
The sole residence in the area has been secured and the residents are safe, Driscoll noted.
Authorities are continuing to search the area today, Friday, and no identifying features of the suspect(s) have been released.
