A suspect has been identified in connection with the damage done to freshly poured concrete on the U.S. 160 reconstruction project that occurred Tuesday evening, May 12.

The damage was caused by a scooter being ridden through the construction site.

According to an email from Pagosa Springs Police Department (PSPD) Chief William Rockensock, a suspect was arrested on May 25 for the concrete incident.

Rockensock identifies the suspect as Thomas Dornfeld, 66, of Pagosa Springs, and states Dornfeld “was charged with criminal mischief 18-4-501(1)(4)(E), a class 5 felony, damage between $5000 - $20,000.”

“It’s unfortunate when incidents such as these occur because our crew is working as quickly as possible to move this project forward,” said Meredith Greene, a spokesperson for the reconstruction project, adding incidents like this cause delays with the project.

PSPD Officer Brandon Bishop explained on May 13 the PSPD was investigating the matter as criminal mischief, and the level of charges is still being determined.

The damage is believe to have been done between 7 and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening, May 12, Bishop noted on May 13.
