Business Spotlight: Sue Wilhoit helps patients feel at home at Black Diamond Dental

Posted

Since opening its doors in March, Black Diamond Dental has built a welcoming, family-focused practice with the help of Patient Advocate and Lead Dental Assistant Sue Wilhoit.

Wilhoit has worked in dental assisting since 1982 and brought decades of experience with her when the new practice opened at 2363 Eagle Dr. in Pagosa Springs.

Dr. Justin Nylund, DDS, said her knowledge, work ethic and ability to connect with patients have been invaluable to caring for the community.

“She has been instrumental in starting this practice,” Nylund said.

Having lived in the Pagosa Springs area for the past 18 years with her husband, Wilhoit has developed deep ties within the community.

Dr. Nylund said many patients are greeted not only by name, but also with questions about their children, grandchildren and everyday lives. He added that Wilhoit helps patients feel comfortable and cared for, especially those who may be nervous about visiting the dentist.

Beyond her role assisting patients, Wilhoit has helped organize office systems, improve workflow and increase quality patient care as the practice continues to grow. Nylund said she is always checking in on coworkers and making sure everyone is taken care of during busy days.

“She always has a smile and makes the best of every situation,” he said.

Nylund added that Wilhoit’s energy is contagious. He said she is constantly moving from room to room helping patients, supporting staff and making everyone’s day better.

Black Diamond Dental offers preventive, restorative, periodontal, emergency and family dental services for patients of all ages in a friendly, family-focused environment.

Black Diamond Dental of Pagosa Springs is part of the Pagosa Sun sponsored content program called Spotlight.
