Southwest Colorado’s sesquicentennial commemorative magazine released

The Power of Place has been released for distribution throughout Southwest Colorado.

The Power of Place is a noteworthy publication, written by local authors, that highlights the unique history of the two tribes and eight counties that make up the Southwest Colorado region.

The magazine features memorable stories celebrating the 150-year anniversary of Colorado statehood through the culture, the people and the landscape that define our communities.

Copies of The Power of Place are free and can be obtained by submitting a request via the contact us form on the Southwest Colorado 150 website. Copies are also available at local libraries, museums and visitor centers in the Southwest Colorado area.

The Southwest Colorado 250/150 Local Organizing Committee is comprised of eight counties (Archuleta, Dolores, Hinsdale, La Plata, Montezuma, Ouray, San Miguel and San Juan) and two tribes (Southern Ute and Ute Mountain). The mission of the organization is to highlight the culture and heritage of our communities while celebrating and honoring the unique anniversaries of the state of Colorado and the United States of America.
