Special to The PREVIEW

The Solarize Archuleta launch was a great success. Forty-five interested parties signed up to start finding out how solar power could work for them.

This initial sign-up is the first step to find out if solarizing will work for you and creates no obligation to follow through.

Gary Frierdich, chair for the local volunteer group, explained some of the steps involved, as did Kurt Schneider from the Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency (4CORE), the nonprofit organization from Durango that is guiding the efforts of Solarize Archuleta.

A presentation was given and Mick Abraham, one of the installers, showed a program that allows many people to see what amount of sun their property is getting, along with suggestions on what direction to orient their panels and answer questions.
