At their respective June meetings, the Archuleta School District (ASD) Board of Education and Pagosa Peak Open School (PPOS) Board of Directors approved their budgets and accompanying resolutions for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.

ASD

The ASD board approved its budget on June 3, with Finance Director Eric Burt explaining no changes other than correcting a typo had been made to the budget since the draft budget was presented to the board in May.

It was approved unanimously.

The budget is based on a funded pupil count of 1,532.7.

It projects total revenue and total expenditures balanced at $21,515,000.

Total program funding is budgeted at $19,805,913, with the budget explaining 92 percent of that is from local property taxes and 8 percent is the state share.

PPOS

The PPOS board approved its budget on June 10.

In presenting the final budget to the board, Business Manager Derek Walker explained the budget is based on 134 students, but noted there is a higher potential count.

During her director’s report later, School Director Emily Murphy explained that, as of that day, PPOS had 148 with 12 on a wait list.

She explained that, the prior June the school had 130 and it ended up with 129 as its official count.

Walker also pointed out that the district’s expenses include $50,000 for leasehold improvements, down from $596,000 the year prior. The budget projects $50,000 in the coming years, as well.

The final budget shows total revenues totaling $2,312,708, with per-pupil revenue accounting for $1,733,994 of that total.

Budgeted expenses total $2,330,991, leaving a net operating income of -$18,283.

The budget also includes $50,000 from reserves, leaving a final bottom line of $31,717.

The document shows a beginning fund balance of $537,194 and an ending fund balance of $518,911.

The budget was approved unanimously.
