Rise Above Violence is committed to ensuring everyone can live free from violence.
This mission includes empowering young people to stay safe and build strong, positive relationships. Rise offers programs for youth from third grade through high school, including students from public schools, charter schools and home-school collectives. These programs focus on teaching resilience, boosting self-esteem and helping kids recover from any violence they may have experienced.
Additionally, Rise Above Violence runs support groups, mentoring programs and activities aimed at preventing bullying and educating about stalking, dating violence, sexual assault and domestic violence.
This year’s Runway for Rise fundraising event features two teams with direct experience working with youth in our community. Team Harpy Kitten Surprise and Team Schuyler Sisters are both eager to make a difference.
Team Harpy Kitten Surprise consists of educators who have witnessed the impact of violence on people of all ages.
They stated, “We’re proud to highlight the vital work Rise Above Violence does to support and strengthen our community. It’s an honor to contribute our creative talents to a cause that means so much to us.”
Team Schuyler Sisters includes a high school senior and a college freshman, both advocating for healthy, violence-free relationships.
They shared, “Both of us have seen Rise’s impact through Hayden’s involvement in the youth advocacy club [Youth Rise] and Sienna’s years of participation in fundraisers [for Rise].”
Last school year, Rise provided 181 educational sessions, reaching 594 youth in our area. These sessions covered all the important topics mentioned above.
Funds from the Runway for Rise event support direct victim services and essential youth violence and prevention education and programming.
