Rotarians seeking Friends of Rotary

Posted

We Rotarians are looking for new friends. Before you decide to be a new friend, you probably want to know who we are and who we aren’t.

Let’s start with who we aren’t: We aren’t political or religious, although we honor all religions.

We are committed to community service, especially K-12 education and working toward making the world a better place.

My inspiration for writing this article is Vicki Johnston. She and her husband were going to join Rotary, but decided that attending meetings at noon on Thursdays would be too much of a burden because they are heavily involved in helping get a family member’s new business up and running. She informed me of their decision, but said if Rotary needed help and they were not busy, they would volunteer to work with us.

Rotary has many community enhancement activities that we perform outside of normal business hours. So, here’s how you can help. Text me at (602) 540-5400 and we will put you on a “Friends of Rotary” call list to find out if you are available. You will always have the option of which projects you can volunteer for to help your community.

Obviously, we also invite you to become full-time members of our club.

Many people move here to Pagosa Springs after they retire and, because they have been too busy prior to moving here, have never been involved in a service organization. Now is your chance to serve, meet new successful people who will probably become friends and be part of an organization that greatly contributes to your new community.

Please contact me and we will host you at one of our meetings and buy you lunch. We also have numerous members who attend our meetings on a seasonal basis if that is your situation.

A couple sources you can investigate are www.rotaryinternational.org and pagosaspringsrotary.org, or feel free to call me with questions. I have been a Rotarian since 1991 and it has been a completely wonderful experience.

Thank you for your consideration.
