Results: Sobriety checkpoints concluded in Ouray, Archuleta counties

The Colorado State Patrol (CSP), along with partner agencies, conducted two sobriety checkpoints to keep impaired drivers off the road last week.

The first was in Ouray County, at U.S. 550 near Ridgeway, on Aug. 22, and the second was in Archuleta County, at U.S. 160, on Aug. 23. 

The results of the completed operation are below.

Ouray County

Participating agencies included the CSP, Ridgeway Marshal’s Office, Ouray County Sheriff’s Department and Colorado Department of Transportation.

The results are as follows:

• Total contacts made: 785.

• Total roadsides: 6.

• Total DUI/D arrests: 1

There were no crashes in the area of the Ouray County checkpoint during the operation. 

Archuleta County

Participating agencies included the CSP, Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office and Pagosa Springs Police Department.

The results are as follows:

• Total contacts made: 670.

• Total roadsides: 11.

• Total DUI/D arrests: 2.

There were no crashes in the area of the Archuleta County checkpoint during the operation.

These are the final sobriety checkpoints for August. New checkpoints will be announced for September. 

If you plan on drinking, taking medications, or impairing substances that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying at home or making a plan for a rideshare, public transportation, or a designated driver.

Drivers who are caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $13,000, not to mention the social consequences when friends, family, colleagues and employers find out.
