From Aug. 26-30, 16 participates and guides of the Pagosa Springs veterans’ fly-fishing group will be getting together at the Project Sanctuary Retreat Center (formerly the Snow Wolf Lodge) on Blue Creek Road off of Blanco Road for camaraderie, healing and, of course, fly-fishing.
The participants are disabled veterans with many disabilities, including PTSD.
Fishing will occur at local area rivers. Some areas are provided by local landowners who have allowed the fly-fishing group to access their river property. The volunteer guides not only help the veterans with their skill sets but teach the novice fly-fisherman the fundamentals of the sport.
Throughout the years, the Pagosa Springs Area Association of Realtors has been the primary sponsor of this event. Because of rising costs to continue this event, the Pagosa Mountain Rotary Club has stepped forward to sponsor the meals for all the participants and guides during their stay in Pagosa Country.
If any landowner with river access would like to allow this group to fish their section of a river or if any individuals or businesses would like to donate to this worthy cause, please contact Stan Zuege at (970) 759-0481.
