The Pagosa Springs High School Pirate football team will be in action this weekend in its first regular-season game of the 2024 season.
The Pirates will be heading to Kirtland, N.M., on Friday, Aug. 30, to take on the Kirtland Central Broncos starting at 7 p.m.
The Pirates finished with an overall record of 7-4 last season, including a league record of 3-1, which saw them finish second in the state’s 2A Intermountain League.
The Pirates made it through the first round of playoffs before being knocked out by Eaton in the quarterfinals.
This year’s roster features a total of 42 players, including 13 freshmen, 11 sophomores, eight juniors and six seniors, according to MaxPreps. There are four players on the roster with no grade listed.
The Pirates began official practice on Aug. 12 and traveled to Monte Vista for a preseason scrimmage on Aug. 23.
Coach Nathan Morales could not be reached for comment by press time Wednesday.

The following schedule was accurate as of press time, but is subject to change.
After the Pirates’ matchup against the Broncos on Aug. 30, the Pirates will then be on the road again to take on the Centauri Falcons in La Jara on Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.
The Pirates’ first home game of the season will be on Sept. 20, when they host Monte Vista at Golden Peaks Stadium at 7 p.m. This will be the team’s homecoming game.
The following week, on Sept. 27, the Pirates will host Elizabeth at 7 p.m.
On Oct. 4, the Pirates will face off against Salida in Salida at 7 p.m.
On Oct. 10, the Pirates will be back home to host Bayfield at 7 p.m.
The Pirates will be on the road the following week, taking on Gunnison in Gunnison at 7 p.m. on Oct. 18.
The final home game of the regular season is scheduled for Oct. 25, with the Pirates hosting Montezuma-Cortez at 7 p.m.
The last game of the regular season will be on Nov. 1, when the Pirates take on Alamosa in Alamosa at 7 p.m.
