Fall sports are now underway for Pagosa Springs High School athletes, including the Pirate golf team, who will tee off the season with a trio of tournaments over the next week.
Coach Mark Faber noted he’s “excited to get the season started,” with he and assistant coach Carlos Martinez having 10 golfers on this year’s roster.
The Pirate roster features several returning golfers, according to Faber, as well as others who are newer to the game of golf.
Among those returning is junior Tyler Dimond, a two-time state qualifier.
“He’s playing well,” Faber said.
Also returning is sophomore Chatwin Pickering, with Faber noting Pickering looks like he’s playing well heading into the season.
Logan Lamoreaux, also a sophomore, has worked really hard, Faber highlighted.
Faber pointed out he’s also excited to see sophomore Treyson Cotts play this season.
Also returning for the Pirates are Maximus Ibram and Brandt Kerns, Faber highlighted.
“I think we’ll be competitive with some of the kids coming back,” Faber said, adding he hopes to have a few of them make the state tournament, if not a full team. “They’re working hard, so we’re going to expect the best out of them.”
The Pirates will open their season the Alamosa Invite on Friday, Aug. 14, at Cattails Golf Course in Alamosa beginning at 9 a.m. — the same place they hope to end the season at the state tournament.
Then, on Monday, Aug. 17, the team’s season will continue with the Durango Hillcrest Invitational at Hillcrest Golf Club. That tournament will begin by tee times.
The following day, the team will be back in action, this time at the Conquistador Golf Course in Cortez beginning at 9 a.m.
Schedule
The following schedule was accurate as of Wednesday, Aug. 12, but is subject to change.
“We are working on adding a few tournaments,” Faber said.
Following their trio of tournaments over the next week, the Pirates currently have a break in their schedule until Sept. 8 , when they will play at Dalton Ranch Golf Club outside of Durango beginning at 9 a.m.
The following day, the team will host its home tournament at Pagosa Springs Golf Club beginning at 9 a.m.
On Sept. 15, the team will head to the Monte Vista Golf Club for a 9 a.m. tournament.
On Sept. 24, the team will compete at the Intermountain League Tournament in Alamosa beginning at 9 a.m.
State is slated for Oct. 5 and 6, also in Alamosa.
