The Pagosa Springs High School boys’ wrestling team wrestled at the Clash at the Coliseum in Farmington, N.M., on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 16 and 17.

Not every Pirate on the team went to New Mexico, though.

Coach Dan Janowsky sent Colton Lucero to the 2026 Top of the Rockies Tournament.

“Colton Lucero earned a medal at the tough and prestigious Top of the Rockies Tournament - placing 4th at 157 pounds in a weight which featured 3A, 4A and 5A state finalists from 2025,” Janowsky wrote in an email to The SUN.

Lucero received a bye in the first round, then lost in the second championship round by a 10-7 decision. He bounced back, though, winning five straight. Lucero won by forfeit in the second consolation round, pinned his opponent after 40 seconds in the third consolation round, won on an 18-2 technical fall in the fourth consolation round, won by 7-2 decision in the fifth consolation round and pinned his opponent after 4 minutes and 53 seconds in the consolation semifinals to reach the third-place match.
