Pianist Travers Vasek to showcase talent in senior recital

Posted

Travers Vasek, a talented local pianist, will present his senior recital on Sunday, May 31, at 3 p.m. in the Pagosa Springs High School auditorium.

Vasek’s program will feature a demanding selection of classical works:

• Bach: “Prelude and Fugue.”

• Beethoven: “Moonlight Sonata.”

• Beethoven: “Sonata Pathétique.”

• Chopin: “Waltz.”

• Liszt: “Liebestraum.”

Since moving to Pagosa Springs two years ago, Vasek has studied piano under the instruction of Dan and Venita Burch. In that time, he has made a strong impression on the local music scene, serving as the pianist for the high school choir under Leo Baughman and performing for Bob Hemenger’s Americana Project Class.

Those who have worked with him praise his exceptional musical abilities. Vasek is known for his remarkable capacity to memorize pieces quickly and for his dazzling technical skill.

“His fingers just fly on the keys,” observers often note, and he consistently captivates audiences with both his playing and his stage presence.

Beyond his performance achievements, Vasek has earned impressive academic and musical recognition. He will attend Colorado State University this fall on nearly a full-ride scholarship. He has also received multiple scholarship offers from other colleges and universities.

His long-term ambition is to continue his studies at a prestigious conservatory such as The Juilliard School or the Curtis Institute of Music.

Community members are encouraged to attend the May 31 recital to celebrate this gifted young musician as he marks the end of his high school career and prepares for the next chapter in his musical journey.
