PCI announces success with community support for 2025 back-to-school drive

The Pagosa Community Initiative (PCI) today announced the successful completion of its 2025 Back-to-School Supply Drive, highlighting the community’s strong support for local students and a continued commitment to educational opportunities.

From Aug. 6 through Sept. 5, PCI’s drive delivered essential school supplies to 70 local children, ensuring they begin the new academic year ready to learn.

The distribution touched students across the local district, with roughly half in elementary grades, 24 in middle school and 10 in high school.

The donations — backpacks, notebooks and a full spectrum of school supplies — came from neighbors, families and businesses united in support of our local youth.

“I’m deeply proud of what we achieve when our community comes together,” said Carrie Blue-White. “This drive isn’t just about supplies — it’s about delivering a message of belief in every child’s potential, and we have to nurture that potential year after year.”

Steven Viola, PCI family development coordinator, added, “The generosity we’ve seen demonstrates what Pagosa Springs can accomplish when people roll up their sleeves and engage. Each donation helps remove barriers to learning and sends a powerful signal to our students and their families that they’re not navigating this school year alone.”

PCI recognizes that the impact extends beyond a single academic year. Organizers continue exploring ways to sustain momentum, build formal partnerships with local businesses and schools, and expand outreach to ensure broader access to resources in the future.
