Pagosa Wetlands Partners recruiting volunteers

Posted

Spring is here, and wetland tours will be starting for the summer.

This year, we are planning to add a few workshops we hope you will enjoy attending.

Our plans include a bat walk in the evening, cattails and all their uses, and a flute presentation.

See how the river overcame the banks and redesigned the adjacent area. The flooding extended to the inside upper pond on the Riverwalk near the 6th Street bridge. Much sand was deposited on the riverbank and inland near the upper pond. The wetlands absorbed the extra water as expected, preventing further destruction along the walkway and inland property. The altered bank removed many areas birds nested in, as they were protected with vegetation and shrubs in the riparian section next to the river.

Questions remain as to where the birds have relocated and how the animals, plants and macroinvertebrates have fared.

As the new season approaches, we are recruiting more volunteers to add to our program as guides. Join us for a satisfying experience regarding the conservation, history and sharing of Pagosa’s unique wetlands with our local and visitor populations.

We will be at the Earth Day celebration in Centennial Park on April 26 at the native garden by the geothermal domes. Join us at our booth for more information. There will also be sign-up sheets for the extra programs.

Send an email to pagosawetlands@gmail.com if unable to attend the Earth Day event.
