Pagosa Unitarian Universalist Fellowship to hold ‘Rooted in Solidarity’ service

Posted

In March, the Pagosa Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship had planned on offering a service titled “Rooted in Solidarity” and, due to illness, we postponed it to this Sunday, May 3.

We were inspired to share this offering from the “Side With Love” interfaith advocacy campaign as part of our justice-focused programing.

Our Sunday service programs begin at 10:30 a.m. and offer time for worship, small-group engagement and social action. We celebrate diversity and foster a spiritual home for those wishing to “Make Friends, Grow in Spirit and Do Good.”

As a UU Fellowship, we are part of an association of more than 1,000 congregations in the U.S. Join us this Sunday for a UU inclusive worship service designed for any concerned citizens needing a space to respond to the moments of crisis and collective grief in these unsettling times.

This service offers a liturgy of stories, readings, songs and shared reflections that help communities ground themselves in our history of showing up in times of need, and help generate the spiritual strength needed to act with clarity and courage right now.

This worship tells stories from our Unitarian, Universalist and UU history — stories of how ordinary people responded and showed up in very different ways to side with love and show up with justice. This service is told through a host of readers and responses led by a worship leader.

We are grateful to Dave Pettus and Susan Kuhns for providing music for this inspired service, “Rooted in Solidarity.”

Other programs this month include:

• May 10: Going Deeper Sharing Circle, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.

For this shortened gathering this morning, come for a brief connection and meditation continuing our lament for the earth.

The day will also include a special field trip to Durango. The Four Corners Alliance for Diversity is having The Big Queer BBQ on Sunday, May 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Rotary Park in Durango.

• May 17: Sunday service, 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Michael Brown, retired UU minister, will be visiting from Santa Fe, N.M. More information to come.

• May 24: Action Sunday.

• May 31: Fifth Sunday day of rest.

For more information about other offerings, we encourage a look at our website, PagosaUU.org.

The UU space is used as a Community Hub for the Pagosa community, and offers space for a variety of opportunities for spiritual growth and connection.

The Tara Meditation Group is held most Sundays from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Email the fellowship to be added to the list and receive information and notices about this meditation practice.

Qigong practice is held at 1 p.m. on Monday afternoons and all are welcome.

The Wise and Wakeful Circle, hosted by Elaine Harding and Sam Johnson, meets the second and fourth Saturdays at 10 am. The next gatherings will be May 9 and May 23.

The Pagosa UU Fellowship is located in Greenbriar Plaza, Unit B-15, 301 N. Pagosa Blvd. on the north side facing Pagosa Peak.
