The Pagosa Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship will engage in Action Sunday on Sept. 27 at 10:30 a.m.
It is held each fourth Sunday.
The fellowship is an active partner in the UU Colorado Action Network (UUCAN). UUCAN serves as a resource for information specific to Colorado.
One action we take is to become informed about the democratic process and justice-focused issues which uphold our values. As we continue to learn about Colorado voting issues, we know that states and local jurisdictions administer our elections and are subject to federal laws passed by Congress. What that means is that defending democracy requires organizing at the state and local level.
Another resource available for our Action Sundays is UU the Vote. Its purpose is to mobilize voters, protect access to the ballot, recruit poll workers and election defenders, and build networks.
The commitment to making sure every eligible voter can participate, and that every vote is counted, is of upmost importance.
Participants at Action Sunday will address postcards to friends and neighbors, encouraging them to vote in the upcoming election.
A quote from a recent UUCAN email says it best: “People power our elections. Voters, poll workers, election officials, and election-protection volunteers make our democracy possible. While civic organizations and state leaders continue the legal fight for free and fair elections, each of us has a role to play.”
Visit us Sunday to join others engaging in our democracy with a small action.
The UU Fellowship is located in the Greenbrier Plaza, Unit B-15, 301 N. Pagosa Blvd., on the north side facing Pagosa Peak. We celebrate diversity and foster a spiritual home of open minds, loving hearts and helping hands, and gather together for active hope.
The UU Fellowship space is available for adjacent groups to meet, such as Qigong practice on Monday afternoons at 1 p.m. The Wise and Wakeful Circle meets the second and fourth Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. This open group is a time of connection, mindfulness and engaging in community. The Tara Meditation Group will start up again Oct. 4 and is held Sundays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
