Pagosa Unitarian Universalist Fellowship announces January services, programs

Posted

The new year is upon us, and the Pagosa Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship invites you to join us for any of our offerings this month.

The following Sunday services and programs for January will open the year with thoughtful musings, celebration and mindfulness activities.

We are a welcoming and inclusive congregation, affirming LGBTQ families and individuals.

• Jan 4, 10:30 a.m.: Sunday service, “A New Year Coffee House Café” (in the spirit of Prof. John Graves).

Join us as we gather for an informal service of music, poetry and delicious treats as we ring in a new year. All are welcome to share in whatever way you feel led. Bring your singing voice to join in, a poem to read or short story to share. Participation is optional, of course, but come in the spirit of community and share some joy in a festive atmosphere.

John and Ann Graves were long-time members of Pagosa UU and at each new year the fellowship would host a service of music, singing and musings with Graves as the emcee. We are grateful for his legacy and celebrate with this special service. Joining us will be our own Dave Pettus, along with Acoustic Picnic, Susan Kuhns and many others to share their musical offerings. In coffee house-style, we will gather around tables and drink in the new year.

• Jan 11, 10:30 a.m. to noon: Going Deeper Sharing Circle.

This is a small-group setting where we practice deep listening and sharing from our hearts. We will discuss the fifth in the series from the “On Being” podcast, featuring Joanna Macy. Light refreshments will be offered.

• Jan 18, 10:30 a.m.: Sunday service.

We will honor the life of Martin Luther King Jr. — his life and legacy — through reflection, readings and music.

• Jan 25, 10:30 a.m.: Action Sunday.

Join us the fourth Sunday to continue the UUA Common Read Book Group — “Social Change Now: A Guide for Reflection and Connection” by Deepa Iyer. Join us any time, as this reflection and discussion group will provide enough context to be meaningful, even if you were unable to read the book.

The UU Community Hub offers space for ongoing programs and events. Our website, PagosaUU.org, has more information about all our programs as well as links to related organizations. The Wise and Wakeful Circle will meet the second Saturday, Jan. 10, with a special play shop this month. For more information, check out the website.

The Tara Meditation Group is held most Sundays, 4:30 to 6 p.m., with Qigong practice offered Mondays.

The Pagosa UU Fellowship is located at Greenbriar Plaza, Unit B-15, 301 N. Pagosa Blvd., on the north side facing the Pagosa Peak.

We hope the new year brings you a joyful heart and a curious mind and a visit to Pagosa UU.
