A Pagosa Springs man was arrested on Saturday, Aug. 29, on suspicion of fourth-degree arson.
According to Pagosa Springs Police Chief William Rockensock, the agency received a report of suspicious activity at approximately 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29.
An officer responded, he stated, and a man, Dylan Brent Sanchez, 40, of Pagosa Springs, was next to a fire that had just started in the bar ditch near 8th Street and Rosita Street.
At the time the officer arrived, the fire was about 3 feet by 4 feet, Rockensock explained.
He noted that Sanchez was put into detention and the Pagosa Fire Protection District arrived and extinguished the fire, which was about 51 feet by 16 feet.
Rockensock reported at least two witnesses came forward reporting they had seen Sanchez light the fire.
Sanchez was taken into custody for fourth-degree arson for “recklessly endangering an occupied structure” because the fire was close to a house, Rockensock reported.
He added that no structures were damaged and nobody was injured.
As of Tuesday, Sept. 1, Sanchez remained in custody in the Archuleta County jail.
