It’s that time of year again. Snow will be falling soon. Lights are appearing on businesses and homes around town, and the star is lit on Reservoir Hill.
The Christmas season is upon us, and that means the Pagosa Springs Community Choir will soon be performing its three annual Christmas concerts.
This year’s concert series is slated for Dec. 13 and 14 at 7 p.m., and Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. in the Pagosa Springs High School auditorium.
The Pagosa Springs Community Choir was founded in 2002, making 2024 the 22nd year that the organization has been bringing joy during the Christmas season to Pagosa. Our concerts are a Pagosa tradition not to be missed.
The choir is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our concerts are free, but donations will be accepted with gratitude and are tax-deductible. We use your donations to keep the choir operating and to fund our annual vocal scholarships. Each year we offer two $500 scholarships toward vocal music lessons for Pagosa voice students.
This year’s scholarship recipients are Lillian Jones and Avonlea Thomas. Congratulations to these two young ladies for their achievements.
Our concert theme this year is “Joy to the World.” In addition to our full choir, our program will include two small vocal ensembles, one of which is our own jazz choir, and this year we have a new highlight as Pagosa Harmony, an ensemble of eight men, will be singing for you. The full choir will once again sing a cappella in the round on the auditorium floor surrounding you with pure vocal sound along with our stage performances accompanied by Venita Burch.
You will be treated to Christmas melodies that are familiar and dear to you such as “O Little Town of Bethlehem” and “Angels We Have Heard On High.” You will also enjoy “I Have Seen the Light,” a more contemporary Christmas selection featuring a solo men’s trio. Our performance of this rousing piece will feature choir members Perry Schjolin, Andy Hockman and Doug Roberts singing the trio. You will be touched by these fine voices and their beautiful harmonies as they sing of the light of Jesus.
Mark your calendar for Dec. 13 and 14 at 7 p.m., and Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. and join the Pagosa Springs Community Choir as we present our holiday gift of song. The concerts will be held in the Pagosa Springs High School auditorium.
We will welcome you with joyful holiday song.
