The Pagosa Sidewalk Astronomers are hosting a free public event Friday, Aug. 14, at 9 p.m. in Yamaguchi Park. The event is named “A Night Under the Stars.”
There will be a constellation tour followed by a telescope viewing.
Meet near the restroom, dress in layers and bring a red flashlight, if you have one.
August is a great time to stargaze, with the Milky Way visible crossing the entire sky from north to south. Sagittarius and Scorpius are rising, which reveal many beautiful deep-sky objects near our galactic center including star clusters and nebulae.
Come out and enjoy the night sky. There may be a few clouds, but if there’s no rain, they won’t interfere too much. The clouds often clear off after dark. Clear skies and we’ll see you on the sidewalk.
