Pagosa Community Initiative’s Adopt-A-Shelf drive gains momentum

Posted

As the Pagosa Community Initiative (PCI) continues to expand its support for Archuleta County families, our Adopt-A-Shelf program remains an active, ongoing effort that depends on regular community generosity.

To date, hundreds of pounds of food and toiletries have been collected, and 93 pounds have already been distributed to seven different families. This ensures that they can access essential groceries and hygiene items even when schedules and transportation pose challenges.

This program is designed to remove common barriers — work commitments, transportation hurdles and health concerns — that can prevent families from visiting traditional food pantries during their limited hours.

The outreach is complemented by PCI’s broader mission as the county’s Family Resource Center, offering free family services programming that follows the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) model. This holistic, multidisciplinary approach helps build strong, person-centered relationships with each family to provide consistent, tailored support.

We’re grateful for the community response so far, but the work is far from finished.

The Adopt-A-Shelf program requires ongoing donations and volunteer involvement to continue meeting the needs of local families.

In addition, we’re seeking snack donors to support our after-school program. If you can help, please contact Rebecca Tenpenny at Director@pagosacommunityinitiative.org for more information and to coordinate contributions.

The back-to-school drive and the food shelf program are just a few examples of how PCI’s efforts to ensure all families and children have what they need to thrive as the new school year begins and beyond. Your continued support makes a measurable difference in everyday lives across Archuleta County. Thank you.
