At its July 31 special meeting, the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District (PAWSD) Board of Directors voted to enter level two drought restrictions under the district’s drought management plan.
District Manager Justin Ramsey explained that the driving factor behind level 2 being triggeres is the measured flow of the San Juan River.
According to the drought management plan, level two is “an advance notice of severe drought conditions” and aims to reduce water usage by 20 to 30 percent.
Level two inclues the following restrictions:
• Odd-numbered addresses may irrigate on odd-numbered calendar days while even-numbered address may irrigate on even-numbered days.
• Irrigation is permitted Monday through Friday only. Weekend watering is prohibited.
• Gardens (edible and ornamental) may be hand watered using a hose or drip irrigation.
• Restaurants shall serve water only upon the request of customers.
• Hotels are encouraged to replace towels and bed linens for new guests and at the request of existing guests..
For residential properties, level two also includes a doubling of tier rate fees for usage of water above 4,000 gallons per equivalent unit.
