Organizations offering post-flood assistance

Multiple organizations continue to provide post-flood assistance in Archuleta and La Plata counties.

The Archuleta County website lists seven organizations active in helping, including the American Red Cross, Crisis Cleanup, 211 Colorado, Team Rubicon, Colorado Baptist Disaster Response, Samaritan’s Purse and The Salvation Army.

The Crisis Cleanup Hotline can be accessed by calling (970) 283-7328.

According to the county’s website, “The cleanup hotline provides free services, but assistance is not guaranteed due to high demand, and it cannot process requests for social services such as food, shelter or insurance.”

The American Red Cross has opened a distribution center locally at the county’s garage at 1122 U.S. 84, where the organization is distributing cleanup kits, comfort kits, Tyvek booties, N95 masks, fans, nitrile gloves, rakes and shovels as available.

To determine if you are eligible for Red Cross recovery assistance if your home has been affected by the recent floods, call 1-800-REDCROSS or visit redcross.org.

For it’s part, Samaritan’s Purse reported that 70 volunteers shows up to lend a head on its first day serving the two counties, with more than 40 other volunteers from across the country flying in to help over the next several weeks.

“Samaritan’s Purse has truly been blessed to come alongside those in need in La Plata and Archuleta Counties. Serving in one of the most beautiful places in the country has been a gift — but what has touched our hearts the most are the incredible people we’ve had the privilege to meet. Their strength, kindness, and faith in the midst of hardship have inspired us every day. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve and will continue to be here as long as there are those who need our help,” said Josh Hanna, program manager with Samaritan’s Purse.

The organization reported it has received more than 50 requests for assistance so far and are continuing to accept applications.

Any homeowners in La Plata or Archuleta counties in need of free assistance with mud-outs, debris removal, or tree work are encouraged to call Samaritan’s Purse’s Homeowner Assistance Line at (833) 747-1234.
