In a time when many people feel disconnected, overlooked or alone, the Community United Methodist Church in Pagosa Springs is launching a new worship series built around a simple human truth: everyone longs to belong, not just in general, but in particular.
Beginning Jan. 11, the six-week series, “Belonging: Known, Loved, and Never Alone,” invites the community to explore what it means to be seen, welcomed and valued — not because of what we do, but because of who we are as real people with real stories.
The series begins on the Baptism of the Lord Sunday, reflecting on the moment when Jesus is publicly named as “beloved” before his ministry even begins. From there, each week explores themes of inclusion, affirmation, hospitality, shared community and hope, drawing on stories of meals, friendships and moments where people discover that they are not invisible and not alone.
“This series is for anyone who’s ever wondered if there’s a place for them,” said the Rev. Ken Daniell, pastor. “People don’t just want to hear that ‘God loves everybody.’ We long to know that our particular life, our story, our name matters and that there is room for us. You don’t have to have all the answers, and you don’t have to fit a mold. Belonging comes first.”
The Community United Methodist Church emphasizes that this is not about pressure or perfection, but about creating space for questions, for conversation and for people from all walks of life.
All are welcome to attend worship during the series, whether they are longtime churchgoers, new to the area, returning after time away or exploring faith for the first time in years.
Sometimes the first step is simply knowing there’s a seat for you — a place where you are loved, not in general, but in particular.
