The Aspen Springs Metropolitan District (ASMD) sponsored the dedication of new multiuse courts at Ute Park on Saturday, Sept. 13. About 40 people attended the community picnic to dedicate two pickleball courts and a basketball court.

Jeff Bohrer, idea originator and project manager, thanked the county commissioners for allocating monies from the Conservation Trust Fund to finance the project, ASMD for backing the project and donating most of the foundation work, contractors, and numerous volunteers who helped with the painting and finishing work.

Bohrer commented that people were using the basketball court almost before the paint was dry, and on the pickleball courts as soon as the nets were up.

The rains parted to allow a community picnic following the dedication with Chris Bobbitt doing the cooking. Stephanie Davidson, Wildfire Adapted ambassador for Aspen Springs, had a display and table with information on how to reduce wildfire risk around your home. A couple came all the way from South Fork came to play pickleball since the one at home was rained out and the courts at Yamaguchi Park were full.

The courts are open to all; just make sure you wear court shoes to preserve the surface.

Ute Park is located at 911 Ute Drive, west of Pagosa Springs off of U.S. 160.
