According to data released by Archuleta County Finance Director Chad Eaton on Monday, July 13, sales tax collections in Archuleta County for May were reported to be down .48 percent compared to figures from May 2025.
Eaton’s report notes that the .48 percent decrease translates to a total of $6,553.63 less received this May compared to May 2025.
For May, Eaton notes that the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County received a total of $1,471,337.27 from the sales tax and retail marijuana sales tax, with $734,538.41 going to the county and $734,545.27 going to the town.
January saw a decrease of 10.64 percent ($149,587.01) in sales tax collections, while numbers for February reflected a 1.17 percent increase ($16,020.75). March figures reflected a 1.01 ($15,560.32) percent decrease, while numbers for April reflected a 9.07 percent decrease ($125,110.70).
According to data in Eaton’s press release, the year-to-date comparison for January through May of this year shows a 3.62 percent decrease, or $258,561.73 less received compared to figures from January through May 2025.
Eaton’s report notes that a total of $6,890,333.80 in sales tax has been collected so far this year.
Categories that were up in the month-to-month comparison according to Eaton’s data include:
• Real Estate, Rental and Leasing at 59.91 percent, or $12,350.30.
• Professional, Scientific and Technical Services at 9.83 percent, or $923.04.
• Accommodation and Food Services at 3.21 percent, or $6,291.78.
Categories that were down in the month-to-month comparison include:
• Construction at 3.59 percent, or $1,232.11.
• Manufacturing at 6.3 percent, or $7,999.62.
• Retail Trade at .53 percent, or $3,807.85.
• Information at 1.57 percent, or $460.85.
• Finance and Insurance at 1.8 percent, or $18.22.
• Other Services (except Public Administration) at 21.67 percent, or $5,703.62.
• Miscellaneous at 3.18 percent, or $6,896.48.
