There are a number of informational and entertaining activities happening during the month of October. Check to see which ones you could attend while also getting the word out to your employees.
Runway for Rise
On Oct. 5, the second annual Runway for Rise event will take place at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts at 6 p.m.
Twelve teams featuring stunning, creative and ecologically designed outfits will wow the crowd. If you cannot attend the event, vote for one or several of your favorite team designers. Votes are only $1 and you can donate as many dollars as you would like. All proceeds benefit Rise Above Violence and the important community work that they provide. Check out www.riseaboveviolence.org for more information.
Elizabeth Smart events
Another important yet often uncomfortable topic is resiliency and adversity.
The Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado will present Elizabeth Smart, survivor and advocate, on Oct 8.
There will be two events. The luncheon here in Pagosa Springs is already sold out. However, if you or someone you know should hear this young person’s words of encouragement, tickets are still available for the talk on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Fort Lewis College Community Concert Hall in Durango.
Smart was abducted at age 14 and held captive for nine months. Her words of encouragement in taking control of your life and facing adversity touch on an important yet difficult topic to face.
Share the time and location with anyone who might be inspired by Smart’s story and words of encouragement.
Health Fair and Expo
On Oct. 19, the Archuleta County Public Health Department and Healthy Archuleta will host the second annual Health Fair and Expo.
While this event is important for all, it is especially important for those who do not have a primary health care provider or insurance.
Blood work will be done in the morning from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. It is asked that you register online to reserve your spot. These blood tests have a range of panels and are very reasonably priced.
At this time, you can also speak to various health care providers or insurance providers. There will be navigators on site to assist you both in English and Spanish on insurance and health care options.
There will also be a number of vendors and community-based organizations on hand to assist you with possible questions or to engage you in possible volunteer activities.
As an added bonus for attending the health fair this year, participants who complete their Wellness Passport will receive a free soaking pass.
There will be a farm-to-table lunch with guest speaker Dr. Julie Buchner for only $10 beginning at 11 a.m.
Transportation from Aspen Springs and Arboles will be provided; however, you must register by calling (970) 264-8441.
There are also some volunteer positions available. You can reach out to Healthy Archuleta at fsfearchuleta@gmail.com or visit https://form.jotform.com/242465667470161.
Please post this information in your place of business and, if possible, give your employees time off if they would like to attend. As an employee benefit, businesses may also want to consider paying for the blood work for their staff. Contact Healthy Archuleta if you would consider offering this benefit.
Business Forum
On Oct. 22, the Pagosa Springs Community Development Corporation will host a Business Forum from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Community members will be able to engage in breakout sessions on topics such as affordable housing, employee business ownership, the Archuleta County strategic plan and more. The event will be held at the Ross Aragon Community Center.
Agenda will be forthcoming soon; however, mark this time out on your calendar to attend.
Halloween Hootenanny
And for all of our families, the annual Halloween Hootenanny will take place at Yamaguchi Park on Oct. 26. The day includes trick-or-treating for the kids, kids’ activities, live music, food vendors, a beer garden, a costume contest and more.
There will be something for everyone on this spooky day. Bring the family.
As you can see, there are still a number of educational, inspirational, and entertaining events happening in Pagosa Springs during this fall season. Make sure you are informed about work-related activities and disseminate this information to your staff members.
