Marine Corps celebrates birthday

Archuleta County Marines and their guests gather on Nov. 10 to celebrate the 250th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps. In tradition, the oldest Marine in attendance, Ernie Garcia, presented the first piece of cake to the youngest Marine, Amber Bonner, as a symbol of passing the traditions, legends and responsibilities from the old Corps to the new Corps. Garcia, who entered the Marine Corps in 1953, was born in 1935. Bonner entered the Corps in 2019 and was born in 2002.
