LPEA director election packets re-mailed to approximately 700 members


Members who have not received ballots are asked to notify the cooperative

La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) has received notification that approximately 950 member election packet/ballots for cooperative’s 2018 board of directors election were returned/not delivered to members. Addresses have now been verified and a second mailing to the approximately 700 validated addresses was completed Friday.

LPEA originally mailed a total of 33,205 election packets on April 17 as part of its standard election process.

“We are working with the Post Office to discover the reason for the returns,” said Ron Meier, manager of engineering and member relations. “The returns are relatively consistent among all four districts – 209 in District 1; 135 in District 2; 124 in District 3; and 238 in District 4.”

Members who have not received their election materials can also contact LPEA for a duplicate ballot. Ballots must be received at the La Plata County Clerk’s office, or returned to one of the La Plata County Clerk’s secure voting boxes (as noted on the election sleeve) by 4 p.m. on Friday, May 11. Ballots may also be brought to, or voting done in person at, the LPEA Annual Meeting on Saturday, May 12 at the Sky Ute Casino Resort Event Center. All ballots must be cast by 10:30 a.m. on May 12. Duplicate ballots will be voided.

As a rural electric cooperative, all members in good standing, who pay their electric bill to LPEA, are qualified to vote for the directors who represent them, as well as the bylaws, which are the governing directives of the cooperative.
