From the May 28, 1970 Pagosa SUN — CATTLE AND DUST — Trail drive crews traveled in a cloud of dust in many places as the Great Western Land and Cattle Co. cattle drive crossed the Jicarilla Apache Reservation. Cattle are strung out for more than a mile along back country roads and through sagebrush flats. Six regular members of the crew, plus visiting members of crew members’ families keep the cattle moving at a steady pace of about 15 miles per day.
