The League of Women Voters will sponsor a candidate and issues forum on Tuesday, Oct. 23, in preparation for the Nov. 6 general election.

The public is invited to meet the candidates at 6 p.m., with the forum beginning at 6:30 at the county Extension Building.

The forum will include the four candidates running for the two vacancies on the Board of County Commissioners: Michael Hayward, Clifford Lucero, Julie Simmons and Steve Wadley.

The forum will begin with the candidates introducing themselves and their views. Following this, the floor will be open to questions direct from the audience in a town hall-style meeting.

The issues segment of the forum will deal with proposed constitutional amendments 64 on the personal use and regulation of marijuana and 65 instructing Colorado’s congressional delegation to propose and ratify an amendment to the U.S. Constitution allowing congress and the states to limit campaign contributions and spending. Pro and con speakers will address each issue. Following the presentations, the floor will open to questions direct from the audience.

The League of Women Voters continues to champion efforts to enhance the civics IQ of our citizens. To that end, our member, Kristeen Harris, continues her coordination of the program Project Vote from kindergarten through 12th grade. More about that next week.

Local League membership is $15 and all citizens are encouraged to join and get involved. For more information on the LWV, contact Merilyn Moorhead at 731-2323.
