On July 9, the League of Women Voters/Archuleta County Chapter (LWV) is sponsoring a screening of the award-winning documentary film “Join or Die!” as part of Pagosa Springs’ 250/150 week of patriotic celebrations.
The doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with the screening at 6 p.m. at the Liberty Theatre.
This entertaining film shows how joining a club or civic organization is not only vital to sustaining a healthy democracy, but is also proven to improve personal health and mental well-being.
After the screening, several key nonprofits will be featured in a “joining fair,” where each will present its mission in our community and current volunteer needs. After the presentations, you’ll vote for your favorite. The top three vote-getters will each receive a grant from the local LWV chapter.
These worthy contenders will be included in the Joining Fair: Archuleta Seniors Inc., Chimney Rock Interpretive Association, Habitat for Humanity, Healthy Archuleta, Pagosa Mountain Rotary, Pagosa Community Initiative, Pagosa Springs Rotary, Ruby Sisson Library, Vets4Vets and the Weminuche Audubon Society.
You must purchase a ticket to the film to vote. Visit www.pagosamovies.com and click on the link for “Join or Die!” on July 9.
The ticket price is $25 plus tax. Tickets are selling fast, so purchase today and come support your community and its vital nonprofit organizations. All proceeds go to area nonprofits and the education fund of the LWV to sponsor future community events.
