After three straight losses, the Pagosa Springs High School Lady Pirate volleyball team has had eight days to recover ahead of matchups with Centauri and Monte Vista.

The Lady Pirates last played on Oct. 6 against Bayfield. After some time to rest and recharge, the team will be heading to La Jara to face Centauri on Thursday, Oct. 15, and then to Monte Vista on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Centauri is 12-5 and ranked fourth in 2A, while Monte Vista is 7-8 and ranked 43rd in 3A.

The Lady Pirates sit at 4-11 and are ranked 46th in 3A.

Coach Chelsea Caler emphasized that the keys to winning their upcoming games are communication, limiting unforced errors and trusting each other as a team.

“We’ve spent a lot of time on serve receive and offense, especially helping our hitters expand their shot selection,” wrote Caler in an email to The SUN. “We’re also putting a big emphasis on communication and creating more trust on the court.”

Caler noted that the team has shown that it can compete with tough teams this season, the girls just need to translate that confidence into their upcoming games.

“Honestly, I think it comes down to the whole team buying in and communicating,” wrote Caler. “When we’re talking, supporting each other and playing together, we’re a much tougher team to play against.”

Thursday’s game against Centauri is set to begin at 6:30 p.m., while Tuesday’s game against Monte Vista is slated for 6 p.m.
