Lady Pirates seeking state qualification at Grand Junction meet

Posted

The Pagosa Springs High School Lady Pirate swim team will be back in the pool this Saturday, Jan. 10, when they face off against the Grand Junction Tigers at Colorado Mesa University.

The meet is set to start at 11:15 a.m.

Over the break, the Lady Pirates had voluntary practices in order to stay sharp with the second half of the season ramping up. Coach Heather Miller mentions in an email to The SUN that the swimmers who were able to make it to practice over break worked on endurance.

The endurance training also continued into this week of practice before the meet on Saturday, according to Miller.

“For the meet in Grand Junction I am really hoping to see the swimmers push through the fatigue and soreness from their training and get up and race,” Miller wrote.

Miller notes she hopes to see some best times at the meet on Saturday and is especially hopeful to get the Lady Pirates 200-yard freestyle relay qualified for the state meet. The state qualification time is two minutes, 2.00 seconds.

Miller also emphasizes that meets this time of year tend to be tough because of the break, as well as the emphasis on endurance.
