Lady Pirates punch ticket to Great 8

The No. 7 Pagosa Springs High School Lady Pirate basketball team will take on No. 2 Timnath at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, in the Great 8 round of the 4A girls’ basketball playoffs.

The girls advanced to the action at the Denver Coliseum after defeating No. 26 Fort Morgan on March 7 and No. 10 Lamar on March 8 at Pagosa Springs High School.

The Timnath Cubs enter the game with a 22-3 record, with the Lady Pirates owning an 18-7 mark.

The two teams have three common opponents on the season: Kent Denver, Holy Family and Montezuma-Cortez. The Cubs went 2-1 on the season against the common opponents, with Pagosa going 3-1.

The winner of the game between Timnath and Pagosa Springs will advance to play the winner between No. 6 Delta and No. 19 Colorado Academy.

The other half of the bracket features No. 1 University taking on No. 9 D’Evelyn and No. 5 Alamosa taking on No. 4 Holy Family.
