The Pagosa Springs High School Lady Pirates basketball team lost to the Salida Spartans in a close game that came down to the wire on Saturday, Dec. 13.

The Lady Pirates had the ball and chance to win on the final possession of the game, but came up just short, 32-31.

For most of the game, the Spartans were playing stifling defense. They held the Lady Pirates to seven first-half points, with just two points in the first quarter.

Coming out of the locker room after the half, the Lady Pirates faced a 13-point deficit with two quarters left to play.

They cut the deficit to eight after outsourcing the Spartans 7-2 in the third quarter.

The Lady Pirates then scored 17 points in the third quarter, more than doubling the points they had scored through three quarters, to move within one point.

After coming up with a late turnover, the Lady Pirates had the ball and a chance to win on the game’s final possession. The Lady Pirates were unable to get a shot off with one second remaining, though, and lost in a close one.

Charity Domingo and Ximena Garcia both finished the game in double figures for the Lady Pirates. Domingo had 13 points and Garcia added 10 of her own.

Lexi Campbell, Kaila Limebrook and Amber Snarr, as well as Adelyn Hittle, all added two points for the Lady Pirates.
