Lady Pirates go 1-1 against Alamosa, Montezuma-Cortez

The Pagosa Springs High School Lady basketball team improved to 6-7 on the year after splitting their two games over the last week.

The Lady Pirates started the week’s action in Alamosa on Friday, Jan. 23, for a matchup with the Alamosa Mean Moose, the No. 8 team in Colorado 4A girls’ basketball. 

The No. 19 Lady Pirates lost 37-33.

Charity Domingo led the Lady Pirates with 13 points. Kaila Limebrook added eight, Ximena Garcia had five, Adelyn Hittle scored four, Amber Snarr had two and Lexi Campbell rounded out the scoring with one point.

Hittle led the team in rebounding with seven. Limebrook and Garcia each had four rebounds. Snarr had three. Domingo, Campbell and Liana Vega each had two.

As a team, the Lady Pirates hauled down a total of 24 rebounds, assisted on eight of their 12 made field goals, finished with 10 steals, and turned the ball over 33 times. They made three of 10 free-throw attempts.

The Lady Pirates bounced back with a win over No. 30 Montezuma-Cortez at home on Saturday, Jan. 24.

The Lady Pirates held a 20-12 lead at halftime and outscored the Panthers by eight in the third quarter to take a 16-point lead. 

The Panthers scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Pirates were able to hold on for the eight-point win, 35-27.

Hittle led the team in scoring on Saturday with 11 points. Domingo added nine of her own, Garcia had five, Vega and Snarr each had three, and Limebrook and Campbell each had two.

Hittle also led the team in rebounds with eight. Campbell wasn’t far behind, hauling down seven. Limebrook had five, Snarr had four, Garcia had three, and Domingo and Vega each had one.

As a team, the Lady Pirates had a total of 29 rebounds, assisted on six of their 10 made field goals, and finished with 18 steals and 22 turnovers. The team made 12 of 15 shots from the charity stripe.

This weekend, the Lady Pirates will host the 41st-ranked 3A Bayfield Wolverines on Friday, Jan. 30.

The Wolverines are 3-10 on the season.

Action is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.

 On Saturday, Jan. 31, the Lady Pirates will head to La Jara to take on the 3A Centauri Falcons, who sit at No. 5 and own a 10-3 record.

Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m.
