The 4A Pagosa Springs High School Lady Pirate basketball team lost 53-34 to the 5A Durango Demons on Tuesday, Jan. 13, falling to 0-3 after the winter break and 3-6 on the season.
The Lady Pirates fell behind early, finishing the first half down 20-9.
The Lady Pirates were outscored 18-8 in the third quarter, falling behind 38- 17 heading into the fourth.
The Lady Pirates outscored their hosts 17-15 in the fourth quarter, but returned home with the loss.
Liana Vega led the team in scoring with 12 points. Amber Snarr and Adelyn Hittle each had seven points, Charity Domingo had three points, and Kaila Limebrook and Ximena Garcia each had two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Pirates.
Snarr and Vega each led the team with six rebounds. Hittle finished with five, Garcia and Limebrook each had three, and Lexi Campbell had two. The team had 25 rebounds total.
As a team the girls assisted on six of their 10 made field goals, shot 58 percent from the foul line, finished with eight steals and turned the ball over 19 times.
Coach Sarah Osborn could not be reached for comment by press time Wednesday.
The Lady Pirates have two games coming up this week, with the first being a home contest against 3A Monte Vista (6-1) on Friday, Jan. 16, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Monte Vista’s Pirates are 6-1 on the season.
Pagosa’s Lady Pirates will travel to Ignacio and take on the 3A Ignacio Bobcats beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17.
The Bobcats own a 1-8 record on the season.
